do prices normal go up on weekends???

We're moving from TX to GA and my Mother-in-law is flying in from OH to help us drive over there. So we're trying to find a one way ticket from Akron to Houston (yesterday I found one for $113.00 total - today it's $177.00) and then from Jacksonville to Akron or Cleveland (yesterday to Cle was $134 today it's $202) Are the prices normally jacked up on the weekends? My mom told me that Tuesday morning is the best time to buy. I REALLY don't want to call my MIL back and tell her the prices have jumped up so much! I was using BookingBuddy. Any advise is appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome to FlyerTalk melanie2915

It's a fairly common practice for airlines to "test" new fares over a weekend. If the other airlines don't match them or there is some other issue they'll usually pull them by Tuesday.

Also, if the planned travel is say 2 weeks out you may have run into a situation where the first fare that you got was only valid up until the 2 week window and now you are only getting the fare that is valid within the 2 week window.

Indeed, most of the online sales happen on weekdays and for defined periods. AirTran does some one- and two-day sales that often drive matches from other airlines, such as the recent one where ATL-MEM was $33 OW or ATL-CLT $22. Ones like those don't stay around long. Sometimes a longer-term sale might be on, but it's usually not as good a deal. The real flukes, like ATL-HNL at $296 RT on NW, can pop up without warning, don't get advertised, and can disappear within hours.

A number of recent sales also exclude Friday and Sunday as travel days or charge more for them.

Welcome to FT!

As andrewp stated, the higher fares may be "tested" over the weekend. If other airlines did not match the increase by airline A, I bet if you check again on Tuesday, airline A's fare will be back to the lower amount.

Many airlines do this on the weekend. That's why it's a bad idea to buy a ticket over the weekend, if possible. They will offer you the lower fare (if they resind the increase), but if the increase was $20 but the change fee is $100, ????
