Name on Ticket / Passport

Hi,

I think this has been discussed before, but search isn't working for me

I have a ticket issued in the name Mr. XXX YYY

On my passport, it says:

Surname: YYY
Given Name(s): ZZZ XXX

Is it ok that ZZZ is not on my ticket, even though it is the first given name listed on my passport? If it is not ok, I'll cancel the ticket and reissue it as Mr. ZZZ YYY.

always without my middle name on the ticket. never have a problem. better reissue it if this makes you feel more comfortable though.

My first name on my passport has always been different than my first name on my airline ticket, and it has never presented a problem, even flying internationally.

I think you are cool as long as part of the name on your ticket shows up somewhere on your passport.

Is this for an international or domestic flight? I've had no issues with all sorts of variations in ticket name including international flights. (The APIS data can be supplied correctly even if the name on the ticket isn't a direct match.)

I never bother to get the tickets reissued in circumstances such as yours. A lot of my Swedish friends travel to America with their tickets and passports set up exactly like yours. None have problems with traveling. Nor have I. (One issue that arises is that the swipe of the passport may or may not bring up the record automatically; but then the PNR code or a mention about the name on the ticket takes care of that matter and allows for the record to be manually retrieved.) A lot of my Hungarian and Central & South Asian friends travel with the first and last name being swapped too, much of that due to the confusion that stems from using the first name as a family name and the last name as a given name. Had no trouble there either. (The biggest trouble we've had in such circumstances is getting frequent flyer mileage credit for the trip; and that issue is taken care of by requesting retroactive mileage credit.)

If you can get it changed at no additional cost, get it changed. If not, don't worry too much and just claim "cultural reasons" if someone tries to give you grief.

Thanks for the replies. The route is YYZ-YUL-YYZ on AC.

It won't cost me to reissue (full J) but I have the ticket in paper right now (don't ask why ) so reissuing would be a hassle. I think I'll leave it

Just in case, I'll email the Air Canada help desk and ask if it'll be ok.

I always travel as ZX Y with ZX being initials only although ZZZZ and XXXXXXXX are spelled out fully on my id's. Never had a problem and 90% of my travel is int'l. Interestingly, took a domestic flight last week. Walked into sfo and there was a short line at gm security. Went to the id screener who stopped me, went to her supervisor, and denied me. I was pulling my id/OLCI away from her before she had a chance to say why so I could get to the elite line. No problem there, like usual.

You say "no problem there, like usual", yet you had an issue with the ID screener. How did you finally get through the checkpoint? For domestic flights, you can go through the checkpoint with ID after checking-in; it just results in haraSSSSment-type treatment (i.e., secondary screening akin to what SSSS passengers get).

Apologize for the lack of clarity. I had a problem with the screener in the general member line at ua's sfo security. I have never entered through that line before. On that day, I made the decision to enter the terminal directly from the parking bus (which I do not usually do) so as to avoid the smoking area that guards the elite area. Given how empty the gm line was, I gave it a try.

When I have directly entered the elite security line at sfo (or any other security line anywhere else in the world), I have never had a problem. This was the first time this has happened to me, and I thought it would be helpful to share to give the OP data to consider per their concerns.

I wouldn't have contacted AC in the first place. Dealing with it at the airport like a non-issue is usually easier.

I'm curious if they have added comments to your PNR and what those comments (if any) are.

Thankfully I didn't give them my PNR, AC FF# or real name. They *could* guess my name from my email addres (format [email protected]) and then find the PNR (format XXX YYY - not sure how they would guess the XXX though) to put a note in, but I doubt they would go into all that trouble.
