I bought a ticket with Aeromexico from Cancun to Madrid and they sold me a seperate ticket from Madrid to Rome on Alitalia. The major reason for this is that the Cancun portion is in Business using the Amex 2X1 promotion. When I made the reservation and bought the tickets, directly at Aeromexico ticket office, I was assured that the luggage will be checked through to Rome since Aeromexico and Alitalia are both part of Sky Team.

I was also told that Alitalia doesn't have any advance seat assignments on this route and that I would need to get the boarding passes in Madrid. Now, how will this work??? Will I be able to just walk off the plane and go directly to the Alitalia gate or will I have to leave the secured area and re-check with Alitalia???? Remembering that my luggage will be checked through. I have a 95 minute connection and they tell me that it's plenty of time and that I won't have to change terminals. Any comments????

When you arrive in Madrid go to to 'Ineuropa' transfer desk who are the agent for Alitalia in Madrid. You will not have to go landside.

You could also try calling the Alitalia office at Madrid airport if you want more information.
