That's a good question. You could look through the websites for airlines and ticket agents (Orbitz, Travelocity, etc) and see what specials they're offering world wide. It might give you ideas of places to see.
You might also find post the question to FT: ask people what is their favorite vacation spot in the world. You'll likely generate many ideas that way!

You can get something like what you're looking for regarding airfare only at Travelocity's Dream Maps or FareCompare.
