Only a fool would take Tylenol. The stuff is so liver toxic that it should not be available, EVEN by prescription. Unfortunatly most physicians don't spend enough time studying the lit to know this and advise their patients accordingly.

When I asked my MD about Tylenol PM for shorter flights (midcon/transcon redeyes) that was when he suggested Benadryl instead.

Sounds like you have one worth sticking with.

I have the same problem where nothing really works for me in economy class(including Tyl PM). I finally got Lunesta which still only gives me about 3-4 hours on 10-12 hour flights. Yesterday I did not bring my Lunesta so I drank half a glass of Gin on a FRA-ORD, and slept (er maybe passed out was more like it), but only for an hour. I need a new drug! (...or perhaps a new employer that will buy business class tix)

Noise cancelling headphones, eye shades, melatonin, plenty of exercise beforehand, meditation, no caffeine, no over eating and no economy class seats all help.

I agree, noise cancelling headsets and eyeshades. Stay away from caffein and chocolates. I have also found that not watching the movie helps especially if they are action films. They get the heart and pulse racing making it hearder to fall asleep.

Is there something I can ask my doctor for that will really allow me to sleep on a trip to Asia?
Xanax works great for me, I take one before dinner and take another as soon as dinner is over, within 20 mins I am normally out until landing, I am normally groggy for a few hours after landing so make sure you are not picking up a rental car or any important meetings when you arrive at your destination.
