Hotels in NYC
Hi Guys,
Will be going to NYC in early Jan 2007. Will stay for about 4 days. Just wondering which is the better hotel? My budget is like the 3.5stars area.
Was looking at Grand Hyatt at NYC or park central. Which do you recommend? Do they both have tv's in the room?
Also looking for convinience for shopping, restaurants etc...
p.s. if flying to EWR(Newark) which is the best way to get to these hotels? Taxi? Train? Would i be shocked at the price?
Cheers,
Kenn.

There is a relatively cheap train ride from Newark into NY's Penn Station. I think it is a NJ Transit commuter train. I've never done it but I'm sure it will be well marked. Unless you don't have any luggage, you'll probably want to take a taxi to your hotel.
As to hotels, your best bet is to use Hotwire in conjuction with betterbidding.com You will probably be able to identify the exact hotel that Hotwire is offering you. (Hotwire is an "opaque" hotel site but unlike Priceline you don't have to bid. Priceline is probably 10% cheaper, but you have to pay your money upfront. Hotwire you only pay if you like the price/offering.)

Both hotels have TV sets and both are in great locations. If you want to be closer to Central Park, the Park Central is only two blocks away. Both are about equidistant from Times Square by foot. You'll find lots of restaurants no matter which hotel you choose.

the easiest, although not the cheapest,
is to take the airport tram to the newark airport train station
from there you can get to NYC/Penn Station for $12 - $15
as long as the next arriving train is not an amtrak metroliner
another option is to take the ariving train to the Newark station - $7 or $8
then get on the Path Subway system to 33rd street - $2.00
