Can someone explain the difference...
Hi all -- thanks for your replies to my "World's Best Economy-Class Seat?" post. I was wondering if one or more of you experts out there might explain to me what is the difference between a Boeing 747-400 Vers. 1 (74J) and a Boeing 747-400 Vers. 2 (744). Is it just that the Vers. 2 has more seats? Do you find one preferable to the other? Thank you in advance for your time.

Assuming you're talking about Cathay Pacific, you need to post this on the Cathay Pacific Asiamiles forum. Each airline configures their planes on their own.
CX's coach seats are pretty consistent on their 744s (regardless of version). And on many routes, the two types are used interchangeably. Plus with cheap coach fares, you can't get seat assignments anyways.

The planes are identical, they are just different proportions of business and economy seats. The high-J planes are used on the higher yield routes (such as LAX). No difference beyond the seating plan.
