DTW needs some work!

I just today flew into DTW for the first time. That is the worst looking major airport I've seen yet. It's dirty, cracking, and ugly.
Is there a plan to do anything about it anytime soon?

Sure ... 90% of flights fly out of the other terminal (brand new billion dollar terminal). You must have used LC Smith (all the LCCs plus AA). The plan is to tear this down in a few years, after building a replacement terminal next to it. Meanwhile the terminal is being run into the ground, as it is slated for demolition.

I posted a link to an article regarding the replacement terminal at DTW here:

FWIW, the Smith Terminal (in addition to what was mentioned in the prior post) is also being used by HP/US, AC, and UA.

I flew into DTW for the first time in years just last week and the new McNamara Terminal is outstanding. I certainly remembered Detroit as being one of the worst airports in the system. Sounds like the old terminals are still that way.

Not so much... in the new(er) McNamara terminal (aka, NW WorldGateway), you'll find all of SkyTeam, plus LH and BA. * Alliance and virtually all of the other carriers (AC, AA, HP, US, F9, DH, NK, UA) are in LC Smith, while (GRO, MG, GL, X9, RD, TRZ) are in the Berry "international" terminal.

But yes, the LC Smith terminal is an absolute dump. Only redeeming factor is (usually) you can get in and out pretty quickly. New terminal is opening up soon (see other threads.)
