I've "bought" the 'rents biz tickets to Australia (went unused and re-deposited for dad's job reasons) but have also sent my grandparents FC on a trip and have used miles to visit my sister overseas, and was able to get mom a FC ticket to Italy this coming fall.
I like being able to use the miles! Only half a million left!

The first time we took my inlaws in FC to Spain we so enjoyed their experience. When they were offered the menu, my MIL said "Oh, I don't want anything to read thank you".

I feel fortunate to be able to do that type of thing.

I was fortunate enough that my dad's birthday happened to fall on the same day as the inaugural flight of the new international airline project I was working on. I arranged for my parents to have Business Class seats for the inaugural flight and the full VIP treatment. The Station Manager was waiting for them at checkin at Gatwick and escorted them to the plane (where I was waiting), the caterers had a cake on board and the captain and crew sang Happy Birthday as he cut the cake during the flight.
I found it amusing that for years I had been subjected to "oh, you're so-and-so's son" from FAs for years when I flew on my dad's airline - and now he was being given the "oh, you're so-and-so's father" treatment from my FAs.
Some things are priceless.....
