Dealing with mosquitos in the tropics
Most mosquitos in malaria regions, believe it or not, go for the feet.
don't wear sandals; wear socks all the time, even to bed. and mosquitos don't seem to bother the local people so much, who eat mostly vegetables and don't smell as much to attract the mosquitos. the mosquitos seem to love western people that eat a lot of unhealthy fatty and fried foods, that make them smell more. and i read if you do get bit, sometimes if you put hot water on the bite right away, you trick the body into not wanting to itch the bite area.
they say lotions with DEET are the only effective ones to keep the mosquitos away, but i'm not convinced.
i'm planning a trip to south east asia and would like to avoid this problem!
