reverse flights for lower prices

A friend recently got an airline tix for about 1/2 price with someone who did something with the reverse flight to get a better price. Does anyone know what this is and how to do it? (this is not necessarily when bidding but didn't know where to post). Thanks

I know that some international destinations are much cheaper going in one direction than another. For instance, RT BKK-LAX $1600 Biz class. LAX-BKK $3600.

I also booked some travel to SJO, and originating in SJO was about $100 less than originating in PHX.

Welcome to FT!
Since you are new, I'm not going to immediately move or close this. Your question is better meant for TravelBuzz. I'll let some of the Bidding folks answer you first. They often know a lot of the ways to save money.
