I'd be interested to hear more about what companies allow their employees to fly F on three class aircraft. We've had a few post, but it seems really rare.

Any flights where you are immediately going to meet with a client afterwards can be upgraded as well. Once you make elite status, what you get from the airlines, hotels, etc., is entirely up to you. Any miles, bump $$, vouchers, etc., are yours to keep. Dave I left my company today, previously an all-economy-even-to-india-do-not-care-how-long-the-flight policy type of place. I flew 56k last year mostly in eco. I learn just prior to my departure that the travel policy has changed (as has the agency), to allow next higher cabin of service for flights over 10 hours. Sigh. |
Slightly off topic...
Has anyone tried "exchanging" their airline ticket (bought through their company travel agency), and paying the change fee + fare difference to so that they can fly in the next cabin? (Or even buying a J/C ticket out of your own pocket [if you can find a fare that costs less than the change fee + fare difference] when times are "desperate" [i.e. you just had a bad day and you want to fly home comfortably]?) |
I just got back from Sardine Class from London last night.
I work for a Fortune 50 company and the general rule at my level (senior manager type) and also for my boss, who was with me, is Coach unless it's to India. I could have flown Business when I went to India 2 years ago but they also said they'd pay for overnights in Europe somewhere if I flew Coach. I stayed in London both ways and I think it really helped with the jet lag. It also saved the company a lot of $$$. They do let us leave on Saturday when we have to be in the office Monday AM. I spent a wonderful day in Munich last Sunday after landing and that helped acclimate, too. We have one major systems project going where the policy was Business between here (KS) and Europe. And people were flying back and forth all the time. I got on it last year and got one trip before the policy changed to Coach. Oh, well. ETA: all Frequent Flyer and Hotel Reward benefits are ours, no questions asked, but we have to use a company credit card to pay all expenses. |
Fortune 50 company.
Business Class on international flights over 2500 miles. Coach on all domestic and sub-2500 miles international. Miles and points are ours. Personally, I wouldn't work for a company that didn't have a policy at least as generous. |
I work for a Fortune 1000 company. No corporate jets around here.
All bookings is thru a corp travel agent. Policy is cheapest + up to $300. i.e. I'm free to fly the airline/routing I want if within $300 of cheapest. Economoy, economy, economy. I can book J only if 1) over 8 hours, 2) 6 international trips within previous 12 months. One thing I like: they pay for 1 airline club membership (not Amex Plat), with approval from VP. Very useful in my case. |

The opening of our support group begins - "hello, my name is viajero, my a** is shaped like the seat cushion in coach class...my company doesn't pay for business or first class, though I feel blessed because they are gracious enough to let me keep the miles - my boss even puts them in my annual proforma/review as a company provided benefit, it wasn't until I began reading FT that I realized that there ARE companies that have generous upgrade policies" :D 200k miles butt-in-seat last year, in the sardine hold. Before Flyertalk, I had no idea this was not the norm. <shaking fist and yelling "Damn you all to heck!!!> Is anyone hiring? I will work for food..and J class. |
My mom's company will pay full fare first or business (first if it is a two-class flight, business if it's a three-class flight) on international trips. Her company in based in Greely, Colorado (a big construction company). She is the executive assistant to the President of the International Division, and her company is building the new US embassy in Berlin. A few days ago she booked 7 first class seats on the Lufthansa Denver-Frankfurt flight. Her boss is a 1K on United (he thinks he might get UGS this year with his extensive travel).
The top executives at her company (the pres. and VP) have private jets, and one of the VPs is a pilot. |
