The only reason I didn't do anything was that I wanted to avoid embarrasing the little kid. Although I still think it was inappropriate for the guy to be watching porn in public.
The guys got some guts to be watching porn on a airplane! Maybe he thought that you couldn't see his laptop screen. But still...... Being a man I am sorry to say I would have probably asked him to put the laptop slightly towards me and maybe blocked of the kids view some way!

But seriously though! I could not do it. He had to have some balls to watch a lesbian session in a Airplane!

I am suprised it did not freak you out. How old was this man?

At first my reaction was--who cares, it's soft porn. But from you described, I think I've changed my opinion.

If it were me, I personally would not care. However, depending on the situation (and also taking into account the nationality of the viewer and of the kid behind him--yes, I think it makes a difference), I might have discreetly mentioned to him that the kid behind him was also watching his personal inflight entertainment and that he might want to watch something else because of that.

Why not turn around and give the kid a "You know better than that look"? That worked when a kid stopped in the aisle to watch one of the many violent scenes in Saving Private Ryan on my laptop.

Was Tera Patrick in the movie?

Pretty audacious, indeed.

It doesnt really sound like the kid was "embarrassed" does it? I think had it been me I would have considered how this fit into the bigger picture of what goes on in the world, people strapping plastic explosives and ball bearings to themselves and then blowing themselves up, tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands starving in Africa, attempts at genocide in Africa and parts of Europe, 100s of millions of people living in squalor and hopelessness. And then I would have thought of all the things to worry about, is this one of them?

Plus, it probably kept the kid busy and not making noise by walking around and stuff.

If the mother was too busy sleeping, in this case, or oblivious to the situation then that is her fault. Yes, I believe in the "It takes a village ..." notion, but the upper deck of a tran-pac flight isn't that kid's village nor is it the mom's.

If the mom wasn't concerned about the environment, then she isn't too concerned about the what the kid does or sees. I am willing to bet that she has had blinders on for some time.

I am glad OP didn't wake the mother or talk to either the movie owner or FA. It's the mom's job, not yours.

Even if he had the screen tilted towards him and was wearing headphones, that is still just rude. No matter how private he was trying to be, he was still in a fairly public place. I also don't think he was trying to join the Mile High Club. Nevertheless, I would have just ignored it, and as far as the kid is concerned that is one in your face way to learn about the birds and the bees.

From what you described, it sounds like the viewer was trying to keep the screen out of the line of sight of you, the seatmate. He probably didn't realize the screen was in view of someone else.

Based on that consideration, it seems to me that had you pointed out it was in view of another -- especially a child -- he probably would have made an effort to get it out of view.

Its up to the parent to do something. If she didn't care or was too sleepy to watch her child, you should have done nothing.

I don't understand this comment at all. Is there something specific that goes on on the top level of a trans pacific flight that I'm not aware of? Is this where the poledances and lapdancing take place? Is this where the poker game is going on? What is it about the upper deck of a trans pacific flight that makes it not the place for the mom or son?

That said, it does seem like something that is inappropriate for a public venue in most of the Western world. I'd have made a comment to the guy that perhaps he wants to tilt the screen up a bit so the kid can get a better view. That would have brought his attention to the fact that this kid is watching and that what he's watching is out of the norm. It wouldn't have placed you in the position of having gone so far as to point out that this isn't the place to be watching the porn so the rest of the flight would have been comfortable between you. My bet is that he'd get a good laugh out of the situation and watch something else.

Was the man aware that the kid behind him was watching? If he wasn't, I wouldn't hesitate to tell him and ask that he watch something else a little less x-rated instead.

If he was aware the kid behind him was watching - that opens up a whole new issue and I'd be inclined to notify the FA.

A few years ago, I was in the Delta Crown Room At LAX and some dude who looked like he might have been in the "industry" was surfing all kinds of adult sites. I don't remember why, but it seemed like he was monitoring the sites rather than surfing for his enjoyment.

Big deal. Boys that age are always trying to watch what they can on Skinamax or Showtime late at night on Fridays and Saturdays when their parents leave the house to go out for a night.

Learn to mind your own business (not directed at OP). I don't personally approve, but its that guy's business and that guy's seat and that guy's IFE.
