Checking baggage on back-to-back RT's?

I have a business trip to Kuala Lumpur and Belgrade in May. After several days of trying, I was unable to get a convenient single-ticket roundtrip EWR-KUL-BEG-EWR for less than $5000. Instead, I'm doing three roundtrips, total about $2000:
- Continental EWR-ZRH-EWR
- Malaysia ZRH-KUL-ZRH
- JAT ZRH-BEG-ZRH

I'll have about 3 hours in ZRH between arrival and departure on each leg.

Can I check my baggage straight through from EWR to KUL, from KUL to BEG, or from BEG to EWR, or do I have to collect it and recheck it in ZRH each time?

Thanks.

Depends.

If the airlines have interline luggage agreements, maybe. I had a simple Delta to Montreal round trip connecting to an Air Canada Montreal to Quebec round trip and was told no problem. My originating airport marked the bags through but warned I'd have to clear Canadian customs in Montreal. I did, then Air Canada insisted on retagging luggage before sending it to Quebec. Coming back, we left Quebec 90 miniutes late and missed the Delta connection home. There was a later flight, but by the time I got my luggage I all but missed it.

So good luck. Your 3 hours in ZRH gives you time to do whatever is needed.
