VAT Refund - Not Using Global Refund?

I wanted to get the advice of FT'ers about options for getting the Europe VAT Refund as a non-EU resident. I go to Europe about twice a year and had just discovered last year that I should have been going through the VAT refund process to get my refund. At any rate, I had been using the Global Refund counters to get my refund immediately; however, I've noticed that they take a pretty big cut.

So my question is (1) what other options have people used other than the Global Refund counters and (2) your experiences with these other processes. Thanks.

After the paper work is stamped by the Immigration officer... close the envelope and drop in a mail box. It will take 4 to 6 weeks, but they do not take any additional cut on the refund that way. They will credit your credit card.
