If family want to fly out to visit, I think it's atrocious to assume that the expectant couple should foot the travel expenses. A revocable or non-revokable trust fund is irrelevant to family travel.

We've decided to create a GTBFTSHNGTF (Grandmother-To-Be-Flying-To-See-Her-New-Grandchild-Trust-Fund). That should take care of things, I'd think. With any luck, and sound financial planning, my MIL will be able to get out to see the tyke by the time he/she is in sixth grade.
Or, perhaps we'll have a fundraising 10K to see if we can get the $$ to fly her out.
Thanks, all, for an amusing experience with this thread!
On a more serious note, we are, of course, under no obligation to fly my MIL out for the post-birth period. It is just that we have the money (and hence the luxury) to do so and would like to do something nice for her. Was just looking for the most economical way to do this, as who wants to spend more an a ticket if they don't have to (yeah, I know. . . upgrading, EQM, etc., but that isn't the point here)?
