Loud Snoring on flight

Not sure where this belongs - Moderators please move to appropriate forum.

What does one do, sitting next to a passenger who is snorring so loudly. Do you wake them up?

Might belong more in travelbuzz - and you can bring your own set of noise-cancelling headsets

One guy next to me was snoring so loud, I just "accidentally" bumped my leg into his, and it worked. He still slept, but the snoring stopped.

A few options:

1. I'll ask the FAs if I can move to another seat.
2. If the first option is not available, I'll use my headsets to drown out the sound.
3. If that doesn't work, I'll wake up the snorer by coughing or sneezing.

Yeah, both my wife and I can stop the other from snoring by touching.

I know someone who is a very deep sleeper. He/she won't even wake up when he/she falls out of bed.(and yes, the snoring does not ever stop)

I snore and I don't like being touched by strangers. You might try turning on the reading lamp over the snorers head ( and then look away innocently ).

If I were sitting in the middle or window seat with the snorer on the aisle, I might suddenly develop an urgent need to use the facilities.

Being VERY guilty myself (had sleep apnea and had the UPP surgery and has cut down on the snoring but it is still reported that I do snore) ... I am not offended by people touching/pushing/shoving me to get me to change positions!

I normally take an aisle seat (normally business internationally) so my seat-mate can always use the lav-run excuse to knock into me.

Yes noise cancelling headsets are a great option!

I find my snoring gets worse during those short cat-naps .. not the longer overnight sleep! Like when they wake you for breakfast, then there is another hour left in the flight before landing .. i doze off more then and seem to snore more then!

Enlist the FA's help .. or be obnoxious yourself!

My husband has sleep apnea and snores. He also holds his breath for large blocks of time and then when he finally starts breathing again, he has a large explosive snort. It's actually very sad, and he's extremely embarrassed about it. But it isn't something he can do anything about. So if he dozes off, it's possible he's going to make loud noises.

Yes, the idea of asking for a seat change has merit. I've gotten so used to it that I can manage... but then again, at home we actually sleep in separate bedrooms it's so bad.

Alas.

If I were the snorer, I'd simply tell my seatmate that yes, I do snore, and to please bump/nudge me to stop it if I start, while apologizing ahead of time.

If I encounterered a loud snorer, I would contact the FA to do something, rather than handling the issue myself.

As a snorer with sleep apnea, this is exactly what I do at the beginning of a flight, even though I usually try not to fall asleep for fear of snoring! I would much prefer they nudge me or wake me up than suffer the potentially noisy consequences.
