NYE hotels

I am going to be in Prague over New Years and the prices for most of the good hotels are expectedly very high. More generally, do NYE prices at hotels usually drop at the last minute or is it more common for them to keep their high rate/sell out? I am trying to decide whether to bite the bullet now or take the risk and see what happens around Dec 28/29.
Thanks!

I can't say for sure, but in my experience it depends on occupancy. If half the hotel is empty a week before New Year's Eve, they will likely throw out a sale. If they have only 3 rooms left, there will be no drop in the price until the 31st, and maybe even then.
