Do bed bugs bite on planes?
Strange post - i know –but I left my apartment in SF yesterday morning and took the BART to SFO for a UA flight to KOA. I was in F, but the plane was freezing so I grabbed a few blankets from the bin, took my shoes off, wrapped my self up and read. I read an article about the new infestation of bed bugs in cities like NY and SF. Sure enough, when I got off the plane, my leg was itching and saw the type of bed bug marks described in the article. Now is it possible I got these on the plane? I kind of hope so as I really don’t want them in my home. As of this morning, they are going away and no new bites. I know this is weird, but has anybody ever had the bug bite experience on a plane before?

well, if there are Gate Lice...
to be more on topic: mosquito bites on planes yes, on numerous occasions - Air India spraying the cabin with insecticide before take-off seems to be based on sound experience.
I have never heard of bed bugs but I guess, considering the fact that the blankets aren't cleaned every time, bugs could survive between one pax to the other one.
OTOH it could just be similar to the fact that I am getting itchy whilst writing this (you rading about the bugs on the plane...)

While thankfully no personal encounters, I do believe that airplane cabins are sprayed (maybe more for roaches and such) with chemicals semi-regularly. Airframes are such odd and artificial structures that I imagine it's hard to do otherwise, especially as they age.
