Does any one know if there are any penalties or charges applied, if you don’t complete your full trip? Can you make partial trip?

For example, you purchase a round trip ticket from place-a to place-c. There is a connection from place-a to place-b and place-b to place-c. and vice versa on return trip.

1. can you travel from place-a to place-b and don’t complete place-b to place-c? you may reach place-c by some means (by road or train)
2. no travel from place-c to place-b, you may reach place-b by some means (by road or train). can you travel from place-b to place-a

and No baggage checked on any route.

You can always end a trip before you use all the segments. In theory the airline could come after you for the fare difference, if any, but in practice it's unheard of. At one point they went after some travel agents who sold an unreasonably large number of discount round-trip tickets whose second halves went unused, but AFAIK they have never gone after an individual traveler for this.

If you skip a segment in the middle, the airline is likely to cancel all the remaining segments. If you want to do this, be sure to get their OK in advance, and hope they don't charge you an increased fare for an open-jaw routing. If they want to, there isn't much you can do about it.

Just to be clear, when Efrem says "the middle", that's the middle of the whole ticket, not the middle of each direction. So if you skip your outbound b-c, your entire return (c-b & b-a) will be cancelled.

No likely about it, they will cancel any remaining segments on an itinerary if you no-show a flight. Your question pre-supposes that you are buying a non-refundable (cheap) fare. Any changes to that ticket after purchasing opens you up to massive fare changes depending on when you do it and what you are doing to it. What you are talking about is not a simple date change, but routing change and most airlines (since you don't mention which airline, but your post shows NWA, I'm assuming you're talking NWA and other legacy carriers) DO NOT allow routing changes on non-refundable fares. You would have to cancel the existing ticket and start all over again. Worst case scenario is if you do this change in the middle of your trip, you may have to buy a one-way ticket home.

So, consider carefully what you are trying to do before you commit.
