Oslo Gardemoen
Im confused. Is this OSL? I'm thinking NOT!
Is it easy to get to from downtown? Or is it one of those airports that are 40 miles from town?
Thanks for the info.

Hi,
Yes, Gardemoen is the main Oslo airport ( some will tag it as OSL). Most international flights will come into here.
I think some KLM flights and Ryanair flights use Torp airport near Sandeford which is 75 miles away)
Gardemoen is connected by a fast train service to Oslo city center.

just watch out for the snow, amazing how this completely paralyses the airport, you think they got used to the idea that snow DOES fall here, but NO.
well the upside is that they do get better at it as vinter becomes spring
Torp is the LCC airport of oslo, lies a long way from oslo. it takes 20 minutes using the express train from OSL to downtown oslo

Until a few years ago, the main airport was at Fornebu, just on the outskirts of the city. I believe this was officially coded as FBU but the OSL code was also widely used. Gardermoen was used as a charter base but when they couldn't expand FBU any more, it was a case of moving the whole shebang up the road. Very efficient train link into town, though...

it's a great airport though - I've always thought it's what an IKEA airport would look like
Very easy to get into central Oslo - great fast train link, but yes, as Globaliser says, not cheap. Then buy some alcohol and realise it really wasn't that bad
(oh and the problem with Gardemoen and snow (I understand) is that because of the strict environmental limits imposed on the airport when it was built, it can't slop around de-icer and snow clearing stuff as much as other airports, which does lead to problems. Certainly, I've never taxied on a taxiway with quite as much ice on it as when I flew into there one January - it made high speed turnoffs impossible!)

FYI: If you pre-register your credit card number on the OSL train's website, you can go through the turnstiles by swiping your card through a slot on them and you will be sent an invoice by e-mail. Nice feature, especially if you have a habit of showing up at train stations really late like me.

There are cheaper options, depending on your threshold of tolerance for various things:
