Snoozing at SIN

Well, I've booked a MR turnabout SFO-SIN-SFO (2xEQM=33914 mi !)

Arrive SIN Day 1 at 11:55 PM UA895
Depart Day 2 at 6:45 AM UA896

Want to sleep a few hours at the in-airport hotel, which I recall is on the gate side of immigration/security(?).

Do I have to go through immigration, and if I do, can I get back in through immigration and security at 12:30am?

(Obviously wont have any checked baggage.)

Your knowledgeable advice, please.

Are you talking about the transit hotel? No, you don't have to clear immigration.

There's also some other napping areas that are even less expensive.

Enjoy the MR. ^

It doesn't make sense to try to sleep because your body won't be ready to at that time. Take a cab into town, walk around, and grab some food or a drink.

Just as I was thinking about posting the very same question since we will be spending a night in the SIN airport in late January with my 8 year old son...getting in about 1am and leaving around 8am to KUL.

Thanks for the links to the SIN airport, it looks like we won't be bored at all...We will try to catch some sleep on the plane and then just have some fun in the airport...

Any suggestions on what to do with a very active 8 year boy pls reply here.

I see they have free internet access which is great!

We will be spending a few weeks, mostly in Malaysia (half time in KUL, half in rural area Pahang) and a few days in SIN on the way back. I 've been thinking if it is worth it to bring my laptop with me...is wi-fi easily available over there at all?

Thanks.

SIN Transit Hotel : I would defintely try to get a room at the Transit Hotel. There is nothing like a real bed after a long flight but demand for rooms is high and you may have to book way ahead.

I was there just a couple of weeks ago, and there were countless travellers without reservations being turned away. There are some construction work going on in the terminal which goes on in the middle of the night, so dont expect a peaceful night sleep. However unless you are flying F, having a real bed to lie down after a long flight is itself a treat irrespective of whether you are able to sleep or not.

Wifi in Malaysia : Wifi may be available at certain cafes and hotels in KL, but I doubt it is available in rural Pahang. Unless you need to be connected most of the time in KL or your trip is work related, I would not bother adding extra weight to my carry-on if I were you.

I stayed at the SIN transit hotel a few weeks ago and never heard a peep from constuction noise. As mentioned, you do need to book in advance.

With your layover, the transit hotel is perfect. A 6-hour stay is extremely inexpensive (about $45 IIRC), and it's a wonderful place to relax, take a long shower, and get some rest between flights.

Wifi is much more easily available in Singapore than in Malaysia. Most hotels, cafes, and some shopping centres would have wifi. The whole of Changi Airport is also wireless enabled, in addition to the free internet terminals.

If you've been lucky enough to get upgraded to C, then the BEST solution is the SQ Lounge in T2. Reached easily by moving walkway.....Since you're 1K, you could try and get in at that time of nite by asking "nicely" tho this lounge is NOT a *Gold.......

I've had some success when they weren't real busy, and the place has food, drink, some "napping" rooms, and generally anything you'd want for the short turnaround. OTOH: My personal pref is to grab a cab into SIN and have some of their great hawker food....
Remember tho, that if you do exit security/immigration, you can't get back in until AFTER the ticket desks open. So just be aware of what time that is...(Unless you've been luck enough to have an onward BP)

To each their own....Have fun on your MR, and Best wishes, Dave

For travelling with children, SIN is not bad - there's an area upstairs from departures (airside) next to McDonald's with a play area (probably a bit young for an 8 year old) and two lounging areas with discovery/national geographic films. I saw an ad for an outdoor cactus garden, but we didn't venture there ...
