I remember being 8 years old travelling to the US on Pan Am 747 and the movie on the main screen was Dirty Harry. My folks were pretty pissed that gratuitous violence was shown on a main cabin screen.

Of course these days I think we should be able to watch what we want so long as it isn't available to minors, with exception of horror flicks (who watches that crap anyway) and porno.

to think that ten years ago, we were all forced to watch 'clueless' on the main screen...

Since these movies are availble on non -pay TV...

...un-edited in most of the Western world outside of the USA I think its mostly Americans who find this kind of thing worrisome. The rest of the world manages to operate just fine with non edited content...I think the kiddies will survive a few seconds of nudity or violence as they walk past to go to the lav.

Yep, I was quite surprised to find an uncut version on SQ as well last month. Well made - Mickey Rourke excelled in his role, IMO.

What is your personal opinion about this issue...
Thank goodness for personal screens.

an interesting observation that singapore airlines will play all movies uncut and unedited, yet television in the country is edited

I remember flying LHR-ORD in F a few years ago on BA and was watching Monster's Ball. Naturally, the afternoon snack service was getting into full swing right about the time Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Berry got into full swing on screen and the FA's didn't bat an eye. It was the FULLY uncut version (meaning more than they showed in the theatres here) and I about died... amazingly enough that was my first encounter with full uncut on-board flicks!

I agree. It's unfortunant that we feel the need to regulate everything so heavily over here.

If you do want to watch movies with mature content, I don't care, that's your business. Just don't criticize parents for wishing to prevent their kids from watching them.[/QUOTE]

I dont follow this,, no one criticized parents "for wishing to prevent their kids from watching them. The only thing that was said that if parents were concerned they should monitor what their kids watch. On another response from attorney28 why did you assume that there should be "regulation" dont we have enough regulations.

I wouldn't want any kids see, but please let the grown-ups have their choice of movie. Airlines are taking away silverware, food, drinks, and service; let us watch the movies.
Last December we flew CPH-IAD with SK (UA wet lease) and had Bad Santa as a selection on our IFE. We watched and and so thoroughly enjoyed it that we decided to pick up a copy on DVD while in the U.S. to show on Christmas Day when my husband's family would come over for the day.

We got a shock when we showed it to my in-laws who are in their 70's. They were stunned at the language, as were we for this particular audience. I realized that it must have been edited on the plane and we hadn't seen the cinema version!

The funny thing was that when we were buying the DVD, they also had an option to purchase "Badder Santa" which was an extra-racy version with extra footage, promised to be more explicit. My husband wanted to buy that one, but I suggested we stick with the version with which we were familiar, since we planned to show it to family.

My goodness, I wonder what the explicit version was like!
