Transporting a Dog with Points/Miles

Anyone ever heard of this being done? I realize I could convert some of my points/miles to airline dollars, and probably pay that way.

I want to spend some of my loose, usless miles transporting rescue dogs to their new forever homes.

Transporting an animal (either in cabin or with the baggage) requires paying a special charge generally equivalent to an extra piece of luggage. As such, I do not know of any airline where the mechanical provisions are in place to pay the charge with miles (E.G. You're not buying a ticket, as such).

You can redeem Midwest Airlines Midwest Miles for a pet ticket. Its only 15,000 miles to purcahse, but the pets cant travel on Midwest Connect RJs.

I presume that's a companion ticket?

Very interesting topic here. I too have never heard about cashing in mileages to transport an animal. But again I've never had to do so myself.

In the past, pets could be shipped separately from passenger(not a companion ticket). Rates were very high(more than a seat on the plane)

The Midwest rate is reasonable, and is RT. Appears one can use AA miles.

Not miles, but I was able to use a voucher from AA to pay for a companion animal fee.
