I'm planning taking the Heathrow Express from Paddington to LHR next weekend. My BA flight back to ORD leaves T4. Does HEX run only into T123? How does one get to T4 from where HEX arrives?

There is one station at terminals 1, 2, 3 and one station at terminal 4.
So just remain on the train until you get to terminal 4.

On a related sidenote, I'm redeeming HHonors points for my stay at the Paddington Hilton. The Hilton Waldorf is also available for the same amount of points, but think I would be defeating the purpose of being right there in the morning to get the train. My LHR-ORD flight is at 0935. Do you think the Waldorf is that much better despite the added inconvenience? Is the area around the Paddington Hilton dodgy at all? I'm not too familiar with that area.

If you have time at Paddington, walk as far forward along the train as you can before you board. The exit from the platform to the terminal at T4 is at that end of the train.

I don't know whether "next weekend" for you means 3-4 September or 10-11 September. If it's the former, it's a Tube closure weekend (Piccadilly Line partially shut, disrupting services to/from Heathrow). The alternative arrangements include the acceptance by HEX of London Transport Zone 1-6 Travelcards for standard class (Express Class) travel. (London Transport tickets are normally not valid on the HEX.) One of these Travelcards should be substantially cheaper than a single ticket on the HEX. So if you're travelling this coming weekend, don't pay more than you need to.

Thanks for the heads up. Actually I leave to the UK this Saturday the 3rd, returning the 10th so it looks like the tube closures won't effect me.

You could also get the Heathrow Connect service which is slightly slower & cheaper.

But unless either your hotel is in the Paddington area or someone else is paying I wouldn't bother with the HE / HC as it's almost as quick (and a lot cheaper) to use the Tube even though you'll have to get a bus to the Tube from T4.

Of course as you are arriving on a Piccadilly Line closed weekend, you could buy a Tube pass & get on the HE / HC.

I stayed about a block from this Hilton a few weeks ago. I never felt unsafe there, and I was out at night quite a bit. Its a good area to stay. Easy access to transportation, convenient to most of central London, and plenty of restaurants and pubs to choose from.

I have stayed at a hotel a couple blocks from Paddington a number of times, and never had a problem. Its one of my fav areas of London.

Does anyone know what is the closest tube stop to the Waldorf Hilton? Looking at a tube map right now it looks like it might be Charing Cross, but need input please. Either way it looks like if I stay here I'll be making at least one tube transfer to get to Paddington.

I'd just get the Piccadilly Line Tube to Covent Garden & walk from there.

If you go to www.tfl.gov.uk and put in "heathrow airport" and "Waldorf Hilton" (as a place of interest) into their journey planner, it'll tell you the route & give you a map of how to do that last bit

BTW NEVER rely on the Tube Map to work out what is near which station otherwise you'll end up doing 30 minute journeys to travel a distance you could walk in 10.

I agree that is the easiest way to get to the Waldorf. You don't have any tube transfers. It's about a 5 block walk from the Covent Garden tube station. You can grab a pasty as you walk by the shop just north of Covent Garden. Blocks are short, and the walk is quick. Just be sure you have a London map with you. You need to walk thru Covent Garden, and it isn't a straight line to the hotel.

Heathrow Express is so much less of a pain in the butt than the Tube as far as getting to and from Heathrow. I know it's a reduntant point but when I lived in England, I took it only once from LHR and it was so efforltess. And booking on line saves 1 pound I think.

The directions given are spot on. There are also excellent bus connections if you do buses.

As for the Waldorf, I loved being based in the Covent Garden area, but wouldn't get too excited about the hotel. As many on the Hilton site have said, it's not really 5* standard and I found the service very uneven. But never having stayed at Paddington Hilton I can't compare. (But it's probably not an accident that you need the same points for both. )
