Jackson Hole in October?

Anybody have any thoughts on whether or not Wyoming - specifically Jackson Hole is worth visiting in October? Rates are really low and we're not looking to ski. I'd like something relaxing for about a week and have heard it's beautiful. Anybody?

Its beautiful...its cheap and there won't be any crowds. As long as you don't mind feeling like you have the run of the place then book the FS and enjoy!

My parents use to live in JH and October is probably the quietest times of the year. You may also want to check out the rates at Amangani. It is normally very expensive, but you may be able to get a deal in October.

Be sure to check out the Silver Dollar bar in the Wort Hotel. My great uncle built it.

Beware of Snow...

Greetings,

You should have a lovely time (I was born and raised in Wyoming, so I'm a bit partial to that part of the world).

I would suggest early October for your visit, as snow is a distinct possibility by the end of the month.

Enjoy

I used to work in the Teton park back in 96, and I've gone to JH almost every summer/fall since then to visit for a few days. I think the fall is my absolute favorite. Less crowds, weather is cool, cheaper, leaves are turning, etc. I actually have a trip planned for Labor Day weekend, but I think I am going to cancel it. I definitely recommend staying in the park rather than Jackson. Try checking out Colter Bay Village.

As far as snow, that is so unpredictable in Wyoming. A few years back I was visiting with my mom, and it snowed in JUNE! I say go in October and enjoy yourself!!!

In the late 80's I was there in late September and it snowed about 4 or 5 inches one night. I am not sure how often it snows that early, but I would second the motion to try for early October as opposed to late.

The park is pretty much closed down by October. Jenny Lake, Colter Bay and Jackson Lake Lodge, will all be closed by the first week of October.
