You can ferry to Tortola, BVI as well (still need a passport) and from there to Virgin Gorda (and JvD too, I imagine.)
Hmm, conch chowder and some of those delicious ribs at C&F in Roadtown, mmmm.

I've heard great stories on a place called "Foxy's" -- their food and their rum so I figure if i'm in the area I might as well check it out. If I stay at the westin i'm sure being the kind of resort they are that they would be glad to help me get to JvanD -- also, how long would you say it is from St. John?

My wife and I were married on the beach at Trunk Bay, St. John, so we are kinna prejudiced in favor of St. John and Jost.
1. Any time you can get there is the best time to go!
Although "off season" (Fall) is cheapest. We were married there in late October 2002.
2. If you want to stay at the Westin, consider bidding on Priceline. If you bid intelligently, you should save a bundle! If you limit your bidding to St. John only, you almost certainly will get the Westin. Check out Sheryl's Bidding for Travel page before you bid.(http://p070.ezboard.com/bpricelineandexpediabidding).
3. The Westin taxi appears more expensive that the ferry, but it really isn't. They charge us only one "fare" for both my wife and I, and that included unlimited trips back into St. Thomas for shopping and sightseeing for our entire stay. And it is far more convenient, going directly from the hotel dock to the heart of Charlotte Amalie.
3. St. John is certainly "laid back," but it is hardly "sleepy"! Lottsa great restaurants and bars! Woody's is a lot of fun and has great conch sandwiches.
4. Jost Van Dyke is our favorite island. Ferries from both St. John and St. Thomas. What else can you say about an island with a population of 185 that supports 12 restaurants/bars? And two of them are legends....Foxy's and the Soggy Dollar (home of the Painkiller)! Check out the Pusser's Rum site for the Painkiller recipe. And I've heard that Jimmy Buffett spent time singing at Foxy's before he became famous.

I certainly look forward to going to St. John and riding over to Jost. How is the ferry ride? How is the weather in late Oct. down there?
I'll wait until I can check out that website and then i'll go about bidding! Thanks!

EDIT: I got the website to work...guess it was putting the")" in the URL. I'm checking the site now...
