Baggage Storage LAX

I am flying to LAX then heading to Mexico for approx 60 days before returning to LAX and flying to Denver to ski. Problem I have is storing my ski baggage for that period of time (60 days!). Have called one of the baggaged storeage companies (MBI) and they quoted a rate of $7.00 USD per day so $420 + pick up etc ! A little rich for my liking.

Can anyone suggest an alternative??

regards

OH

Do you have a friend in the LA area? Leave the ski equipment with him/her, bring back a souvenir from Mexico, and take your friend out to dinner when you come back. It will cost a lot less than $420.

Do you have family or friends at home? Have them ship your skis to coincide with your arrival at the ski destination, or maybe a day or 2 earlier and the hotel/condo holding it for you. How much could that be? I know it will be a lot less than $420.

Welcome to FT!

Shipping the skis will definitely be cheaper than paying the $420 dollars in storage fees, but , I paid almost $70 dollars to ship a single pair of 210Cm XC-skis a couple of winters ago. Keep in mind this didnt include a boot box, but I also doubt your downhill skis are 210's (which increased my price). So, probably a wash endnig up around 70 bucks. Definitely insure this package, and re-check the functionality of the bindings and brakes before hitting the mountain, as they theoretically could get damaged in shipping. I guess you could also have just your boots shipped to your ski destination and rent skis, to save the hassle of boxing up yours, but I don't know what ski rentals run these days...Though off mountain at an outdoor shop in CO like Christy Sports will probably be relatively cheap.
By the way - where/when will you be skiing in CO? PM me.

Thanks for all your responses ... its a tricky one . Should have added I am on my way back home to NZ after living in the UK for the last 2 years, so need to bring all my stuff with me! - don't know anyone in LA and I need to store the full ski kit (boots poles jackets etc) not just skis!

Anyway will try a few hotels and see if they will store perhaps for less that $420 !

In this case your best bet would be a storage place. I know I saw few of them around LAX. I just stayed at the LAX Hampton Inn and I remember seeing a storage place right across the street. These places are very reasonable. The fees depend on the size of the locker.

I just Googled 'LAX storage' and found this place. I'm not recommending it but it may give you an idea of the cost and location:
