On SOTO/SOTI rules

Not sure if it belongs here, but most probably here are the people who know best.

Even though IATA eliminate the ISI rule on tickets, I ran accross a ticket in Z class that had a SITI rule.

Background, I have to fly IAD - EZE. Family is in JNB ... so naturally the logical way to fly is IAD-FRA-JNB-GRU-EZE-GRU-JNB-FRA-IAD .... why you ask... well
C on UA IAD-EZE is roughly 8000, C on LH to JNB is roughly 6000. Add on with SA/RG from JNB-EZE (via GRU) in business 1900 in Z (rest. C) 2200 in c (less res. C) and 3900 in J (full flexible C). However, Z and C are with a SITI rule except for South Africa, Brazil and Argentina (menaing these are supposed to be sold on only in those countries. ...

the normal solution is to have LH ticketed in IAD, and get the SA ticket in JNB... but this would completley freak out our accountatns who already have a fit about hte routing (I pay the fare difference myslef if there is one).

Considering the IATA changes to eliminate the ISI (SITO/SOTO etc) indication on tickets and replacing them with the MCO. (even the COM is eliminated) what could do and what is the risk of a SOTO ticket?

I am still trying to have it at least SITO (which might be according to the rules).

Any thoughts ?

Check out this thread. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...highlight=SITO

Now I may be wrong, but I believe airlines can still file fares that have ticketing restrictions that are country specific. It isn't called SITI anymore, but they can still restrict the point of sale if they want to. And apparantly SA/RG have done just that, with higher C fares if it is sold outside of ZA/BR/AR. Unfortunately I can't offer a solution...

Ticket restrictions still apply

This is not really a new rule. Airlines can still place restrictions on where a ticket must be issued. The IATA rules did change as fare as SITI/SOTO/SOTI/SITO, but it has not affected these types of fares. The LH Z class fares between Europe and South Africa are a very good example:

12 TICKET RESTRICTIONS -
TICKETS MUST BE ISSUED:
IN AUSTRIA/BELGIUM/SWITZERLAND/CYPRUS/CZECH REPUBLIC/
GERMANY/DENMARK/ESTONIA/SPAIN/FINLAND/FRANCE/UNITED
KINGDOM/GREECE/HUNGARY/IRELAND/ITALY/LITHUANIA/
LUXEMBOURG/LATVIA/MALTA/NETHERLANDS/POLAND/PORTUGAL/
SWEDEN/SLOVENIA/SLOVAKIA/NORWAY/ICELAND/TURKEY
NOTE: TICKETS TO BE ISSUED IN AUSTRIA/BELGIUM/
SWITZERLAND/CYPRUS/CZECH REPUBLIC/GERMANY/ DENMARK/
ESTONIA/SPAIN AND CANARY ISLANDS/ FINLAND/FRANCE/UNITED
KINGDOM/GREECE/HUNGARY/ IRELAND/ITALY/LITHUANIA/
LUXEMBOURG/LATVIA/ MALTA/NETHERLANDS/POLAND/PORTUGAL/
SWEDEN/ SLOVENIA/SLOVAKIA/NORWAY/ICELAND/TURKEY ONLY.

There is an alternative!

I can see a $990+taxes full Y fare on MH (no sales restrictions). For some reason they don't seem able to list any other fares...But they do have a direct JNB-EZE flight, albeit only twice a week...You can call them and ask about C-class fares, but even their Economy is thought to be among the best in the skies (34" pitch)....

Actually, this probably shouldn't be in the Mileage Run forum. Maybe Travelbuzz since it's about ticketing rules. The link that whlinder posted is really useful.

Whlinder's always got the answers when it comes these sort of things! ^

However, I do believe that this is more appropriate for TravelBuzz than it is for Mileage Run as it is in regards to a specific itinerary.

Thanks!
