Although I have stated the following in the first milepost in this thread...

When I wrote “on rare occasions”, I meant that I could count the number of times on one hand where I “exacted revenge”, and by no means did I intend to cause any harm doing so. As I said...

Still, those of you who bluntly pointed out that that is no excuse are correct in doing so — which is why I said that “revenge is simply not my style and I am not particularly proud of myself when I exact revenge on someone else.” This thread was intended to be more light-hearted in nature, but that is not the way it turned out, unfortunately. I thank you for your frank and candid criticism. |

Things I would like to do once in my life
Those paybacks I dream of.....
Pet Peeve #1.... "Campers" (people in airports, malls or other public places who stop either alone to talk on cell phone or in a group to converse)...some day I am going to come up to them with my luggage or whatever else I am carrying and hand it to them and say "since it doesnt look like you are going anywhere anytime fast would you hold this while I go to the ladies room (other variations : while I have lunch, while I take a nap). Pet Peeve #2... Loud Cell phone talkers....go sit/stand next to them and join in phone call.....answer questions they ask person on the other end of the phone, chime in with the "no ways". When they give you a look respond with "well since you were sharing the call with all of us I thought we might as well join in" For those who are saying thinking of revenge is wrong, I will be honest I have one prejudice in the world, stupidity, and those who hit #1 or #2 above I do believe in profiling! |
I only go for revenge if I can get away with it. :p

Revenge
The jerk who puts the seat in full recline, and refuses to move it when politely asked is a problem. My experience has been most people will respond when politely asked and the flight crew will get involved but there is always an exception.
Then there was the flight to Toronto with jerk in front and jerk behind. Me smack dab in between and Air Canada not caring at all. Jerk in front refused to put his seat upright, the trays wouldn't come down properly (he was a jumper and it was the least space I'd ever had) and because jerk refused neither did his friends so none of us in say row 23 could have our trays down unless we reclined which normally I don't do but I happened to be hungry, even air plane food was appetizing so I put my seat down and jerk behind didn't even ask politely just *****ed a fit and kept pushing my seat knocking my stomach into the tray which I couldn't get back up. I'm getting bruised and Air Canada didn't do a damned thing. I wasn't in the mood so just announced that 24 was hurting me and to STOP! pushing my seat driving me into the tray unless s/he wanted to be arrested and I was ready to press charges of assault. That got everyone's attention. I said if Air Canada didn't do a thing I'd start screaming for security the second I got off the plane. Yes I was mad. 24 apologized. Yeah right sorry that I wouldn't take that crap not sorry s/he was a sadistic jerk! I added that 24 was stuck because the guy in 22 D refused, it was his right to recline (I quoted him) and described him (named his T-shirt slogan) for all and Air Canada's policy was not to interfere according to and I described her too (pointing them out so even those who couldn't see who was talking could tell by looking at them when they stood up though AC person was standing). I told 24 D the best I could do was finish my meal and then she/he (don't remember) could eat and so on because Air Canada was cheap and 22 D has his rights. Everyone was listening and I guess 22 D got embarassed all of a sudden the row went up and for the rest of the flight he didn't recline again. JMHO but the smirk on his face when I was polite suggested he loved spewing his 'line' about his 'rights'. |
Usually I'm above any revenges, but yesterday I just had to. On CSA PRG to HEL a couple in the gate just placed themselves in the middle of the boarding-queue. This happens from time to time so I gave them "the evil eye", but unfortanetely they never looked at me. As we approached the two gate agents the queue divided in two, and the couple chose the left one. Seeing that it moved slower they left it half a minute later, got just in front of me in the right one! It was on the boundrary of socially accepted so I could not say much.
But as we got on the plane I saw them sitting in 22AB, and I was headed for 21A. Having a little decency, I waited until the meal-trays were taken away and instantly made a quick full recline. But there came no complain from behind, to which I had already planned to explain that my recline was because of their behaviour in the gate. So after 10 minutes, I got tired of sitting in recline and raised my seat. Just as well anyway... |

You use it in a restaurant you mentioned, what about the person carrying their phone just as a precaution because their kids are home with the sitter, who happens to sit in the table next to you. You jam the signal and they miss a serious emergency call.
I mean, if the person was standing on a table and yelling at the top of his/her lungs, wouldn't you expect the management to put a stop to it? There are indeed several establishments that I no longer give my business to because they allow this to go on. I also make a point of telling the management why I am voting with my feet. ...still, that jammer looks mighty tantalizing.... :D |

However, I have personally observed many instances of people abusing cellphone use in fine dining establishments, entertainments venues (i.e. movie theatres, symphony halls) and airplanes. You wonder how people survived in the days before cellphones. Were the sitters better trained for emergencies? Or more likely the parents just less retentive. |

Yet with that said, I think Jamming everyone is wrong. Your question on how parents did it before, some had pagers and before that they left the phone number for the restaurant with the sitter. My point was just that we shouldnt punish those who use them correctly in public, for emergencies only, for the few jacka**es who have no manners. Personally if I had my way it would be at least a misdemeanor if you answer one in public at the top of your voice. At least then we would be punishing the right people! |
This thread made me think of something a friend and I did at the MGM Grand last year. We were watching the NFL games on TV. This guy next door obviously had bet money on the game because he kept yelling when something happened in the game. He was yelling really loudly and we were annoyed by this. Since we could tell which team he had money on by his reactions, we cheered and clapped very loudly when the opposing team did something positive: when they scored, stopped his team, got an interception, etc. I'm sure he must have loved that :D

My pet peeve, not yet mentioned, is people who don't pay attention to the "stand right, walk left" signs on the sliding walkways, spreading themselves and their luggage out and blocking those of us who want to move faster. They always glare at me when I get behind them and ask them to move. Even worse are the couples who get off at the end of the walkway and immediately stop to discuss where they should go next. I'm tempted some day to just crash into them like a bowling ball.

We all ended up laughing, but future vendors actually skipped our table and -- get this -- tried to sell watches to the LOCALS sitting adjacent to us! |
Canarsie:
Very interesting thread. I remember one revenge. In a hotel in Kamloops, Canada, our room neighbors (2 or 3 people) came back at 3 or 4 at night and started a very, very loud conversation for some time. The next morning (early Sunday morning) the room was quiet .... before we checked out, I put a "please make the room" sign on their door....I hope it worked. |
A little off-topic.
Here is bitter revenge story: Two colleagues sit in one room. "A" never removes bottle, cans etc. "B" collects the trash and sends it collect to "A's" home (collect = getting the freight). "A" get's mad and puts a fish inside the air duct of "B's" car .... it took "B" weeks to find the source of that bad smell ... more "fresh air" = more bad smell. :D Unfortunately, that's a true story ... |
