On long hauls, I sometimes want and sometimes don't want to see daylight to keep my body clock on the cycle I want it on. I'll close the window half or even two thirds as a courtesy, but if I have a window seat, I am the final determinant of where the window shade is positioned. I try to compromise, but will only go so far if I have a reason that is valid to me and me alone.

What if they counter?

You are in control of the window, however they are in control of aisle access.

Not a big deal. Climb over the person. I've had to do that a couple of times. That is when you do need to use the seatback in front of you. Luckily no one screamed at me.

Then you get the FA's attention. Control of the window is not the same as blocking access to the bathrooms.

Window Seat - Window your domin - you can control the shade. YOu did the right thing, but you also get to control if it is up or down. It dosen't matter to me if it is up or down. I like my isle seat so I can get in and out if I need to.
