Visa Waiver Machine Readable Passport Program - Question
I was checking out the Singapore Airlines website, and noticed Special Travel Advice posted on the homepage.
Basically, it indicates that effective June 26
and then provides a link to the U.S Department of State website.
I just had my passport renewed a few months ago, so I assume that my current version is machine readable. I am embarrassed to ask, but dating how far back were all U.S. Passports issued Machine Readable? My wife's passport was issued back in 2000 - is it safe to assume that it is machine readable?
Has this requirement been widely published, or have I simply been hiding under a rock?
Thanks in advance for any replies?

the US Bureau of Customs and Border Protection will require all passengers from Visa Waiver Program countries to hold an individual Machine Readable Passport (MRP) or a valid, unexpired US non-immigrant visa. If neither is available, entry into the US may be prohibited

I initially read it, and was worried about the U.S. (holder's) passport at the international origin.
Thank you for catching me.
