This all reminds me of "Master of the House" from Les Miserables. I guess some things never change, even after 250 years, a revolution and a couple of world wars.

Mulhouse has about 15 hotels, four of them I can recommend, otherwise there are some fabulous places a few miles away in the country.
Hazebrouk is unknown to me, so I cannot help. Out of curiosity I just found one hotel...

Trying to find hotels is part of the fun. I go through many cities in France and I always found exactly what I was looking for. Good food and when it is just for one night, not too expensive a place, unless exceptional. By asking people I found some great places.
