Checked or hand?
I would like to take my Father in Law (in the US) a bottle of malt whisky
for a present, i am debating if i should put the bottle (in a tube) in my hand / carry on or checked bags for a trans Atlantic flight?
Any advice please.

Better safe than sorry. Hand luggage, I asked a similar question a few years ago and got the hand luggage vote.

Got to be hand luggage and why not buy it at Duty Free on your way out of the country after check-in?

I am taking Glenfiddich Millenium Reserve 21 Year Old. I bought two bottles at a bargain price and i would put the 'spare' one to a good use.
If you want a good Malt, any of the big 6 are good ones, though i would recommend Talisker..to be taken neat, with a drop of water, or just ice. Put anything else in it and you are a 'heathen'!..
