You're not going to do much better than that booking this close to departure.

Even Independence Air, with a connection through Washington Dulles, prices out at over $400.

A nonstop in the high-$300s is a pretty good deal for a last minute ticket, especially in a relatively uncompetitive market such as NYC-CLT.

Considering I've seen WAS-CLT close to $300 even months in advance, I can't imagine you'll find anything cheaper this close in-- unless US releases an e-fare this week.

If she has the time to take 12-13 hours each way and the willingness to arrive at 3am, Amtrak is $213 nonstop. Greyhound looks like 14-17 hours though with better times and about $160.

Or, if your sister has a car and is willing to drive the 12 hours or so each way, it'd cost about $80-$200 in gas for the roundtrip depending on her car's fuel economy, plus all the normal assorted costs of wear and tear, etc.

She could fly roundtrip from JFK to ATL for $215 then rent a car to drive the 4 hours to Charlotte. Of course the car rental and gasoline might make the cost the same as flying directly to Charlotte for rates you already have.

With such a last minute trip, you don't have much from which to choose.

Analise - where did you find the $215? I live in Atlanta and am also going and told my mother last week that she could fly here and drive with me.

Wahooflyer - maybe I could rent a mule and have her ride it?

I found it on Orbitz. It was on United. I see that it's gone.
