Highest mileage on trip odometer?

Just rented a car and the odometer reading was 11,600. When I reset the trip odometer I saw that it was 5,700. Anybody come across a higher one?

I've never seen a trip odometer, even an electronic one, that goes over 999.9 miles.

That said, however, there are plenty of nearly brand-new cars I've rented where no one's ever touched the trip odo. Same mileage (<1000) as the main odometer.

Reminds me of something -- once I rented a car where the electronic dash was set to metric for some reason (this was in the US). I dug out the manual (which surprisingly was in the car) and switched it back to imperial measurements. This really confused Hertz, as it appeared the car had fewer "miles" than when it was checked out. They had me guestimate the mileage and added that to the original km figure.

I would have been tempted to tell them I drove in reverse a lot.

In our last hire car (hideous, bland Chevy Malibu "Classic") the trip counter randomly reset itself and reported odd results. Not that I cared, but I'd have liked to know roughly how many miles I'd done on a tank of gas when crossing the desert and mountains in WA without the aid of my memory and quick mental arithmetic.
