JFK-NCE Rainer Funeral problems?

As luck would have it I got last minute confirmation call that i do indeed have to be in Nice on Monday for a meeting.

Scrambling, i was able to get a reservation (Y class) but not a seat on the very much oversold DL 82 ( direct service JFK-NCE) on 4/9, allowing me to get into NCE on 4/10 and sleep off some jetlag before having to work.

My question is this : Since my flight DL82 is oversold and (according to Delta ticketing) the front of the bus is full of paid VIPs, what would be my best course of action to a) get to NCE on the 10th and less important but always nice, get an operational upgrade for routing thru another city (maybe CDG)?

As is now, im planning on getting to the airport nice and early to make sure I have some levearge with getting bumped if possible

thanks,

-Fish

P.S. Im a NW silver so i guess that makes me skyteam elite-ish
P.P.S not that it should matter too much but this is a delta ticket on NW stock

Strange, the funeral is not before end of next week...
The direct flight is a beloved one, so, almost all year that flight is well sold. A flight by way of CDG should be no probem, however.

Good luck and good flight

Has nothing whatsoever to do with the funeral, the flight was 0'ed out in Biz 6 months ago as it always is on almost these exact dates due to MIPTV, the VIP's are TV execs, not mourners.

Cool I think its actually a bit of both

Thanks as always for the input.

I did end up getting on the flight (exit row at that...yay legroom) ^ and indeed it was full of TV folks ... :-: to hfly ( I felt like the odd man out as everyone seemed to be old friends). But, the late prince was lying in state starting monday, so I have to think that some of the Nice traffic could have been mourners.

Either way the meeting went well, and I was able to hightail it to ZRH without too much hassle for dinner and a comfortable hotel (La Gaude fell painfully short in comfortable business hotels) If i can survive the remaining transit (and subsequent meetings)to MXP, and GEN for lunch and dinner respectively today, I can take my time in catching my Z class seat on KL643 AMS-JFK to celebrate my 1 year with Miss. Fishkill <3 (bless her for putting up with me never being home) in NYC on Friday before I have to cross the pond again in coach on the 19th

If you are in the FD lounge on the evening of the 15th, come say hi, Ill be the guy with the big blue backpack looking happy to get home..... if just for 3.5 days.

Cheers,

Fish
