BDL to SIN opinions
So I have to go from BDL to SIN March 4, to March 14.
I see that United and AA both have the same rate. But going on AA gets me through NRT and goes on a codeshare Japan Airlines to SIN, but UA goes through Hong Kong, and continues to SIN.
Any opinions on which would be better, I'm not really a member of any FF clubs et all. And ya I'll be going in economy

Do you have any flexibility? Can you plan a stopover?
Of the two you mentioned, I'd do UA through Hong Kong, IF I could get a day or two in HKG as part of the deal.
If you need to get there and get back I'd argue for getting to EWR and taking the Singapore Airlines non-stop. It's about an 19-hour flight vs. 23-25 hours out of BDL with a connection. The SQ non-stops are in "Executive Economy" which I guess means there's more room.

Concur on the EWR-SIN nonstop. Here's a short summary:
Pros:
+Executive Economy is a nicer version of regular Economy. Singapore Airlines has a description on their website with pictures and so on.
+Nonstop flight without having to deal with connections (flying from BDL, you will have at least 2 of those)
+Leaves late night (instead of early morning) and arrives early morning (instead of midnight). Note - you will arrive 2 days later, so plan accordingly.
+Singapore Airlines is well known for excellent in-flight service.
+Miles can be credited to a variety of programs.
Cons:
-Longest flight in the world, I believe. 18hours.
-Getting to EWR, I guess.
-Lowest coach fares have been pricing out around $1100+tax. So far, no sales on this route (and likely no need to!).
If you don't mind the long flight, then I'd go with the nonstop.

Thanks for the input...
I definatle have looked into the nonstop, but it is $400 more, and I have to consider the ~4 hours commuting time to EWR, which is a pain in itself, equivilent to another $100 for some shuttle or such. Maybe I will schedule some sort of stop over in Tokyo or Hong Kong..
Thx!

If you'll be going economy and cannot secure an upgrade on UA metal flights (would require buying an upgradeable fare, getting some systemwide upgrades - try Coupon Connection here - and finding flights with Business class upgrade space available - maybe tough given you're locked into specific dates and have no UA status), there's no question paying the extra $400 to fly in Exec Economy on SQ out of EWR is very, very well worth both the money and the drive (or flight, if you can grab a decent fare BDL-EWR r/t) to EWR.
Any way you slice it this is a VERY long flight. Exec Economy on SQ looks about equivalent to what used to pass for Business Class on Pan Am or AA back in the day. In any case, think very carefully before committing to 23+ hours in standard Economy seats on any airline. I've done a lot of transpac trips, and a few transpolar ones (JFK-HKG, EWR-HKG). Never in less than business class. Could not imagine surviving the trip in a standard Y seat. I'm neither a snob nor a wuss, it's just that I don't see how anyone could tolerate the cramped, upright seating, lack of privacy and mediocre-at-best food and beverage service for that long a trip. Bear in mind you're flying nearly halfway around the Earth.
As mentioned above, SQ service (food quality, beverages, flight attendant attitudes etc.) will be worlds above any US-based carrier especially in economy. And, if you join UA's Mileage Plus, you will earn nearly enough miles for a free domestic ticket just from this one flight.
Go for the SQ flight.
Edited to add: I see a fare of $156.90 for CO BDL-EWR-BDL on the dates you mentioned - probably a better deal than a shuttle or parking a car at EWR, not to mention less aggravation to fly than drive even though total trip time might not be any quicker.
