Nice hotel in NYC

Hi,

My brother is getting married this Wednesday night and we're looking for a nice hotel in Manhattan for him and his wife on his wedding night. He has Hilton Honors Gold status, and was wondering what hotel would be a nice one for the wedding night, one that would upgrade him to a nice suite or something.

Thanks,
goodo

If you are looking for a Hilton property you could always do the W=A which is a nice hotel. A non-Hilton property I like is The Plaza.

Waldorf Towers (a sort of hotel within a hotel concept at the Waldorf-Astoria) is something to consider too.

FYI (and off topic) the Plaza will be closing on April 30th. Much of the management staff, chef, etc are already bailing out. You may want to reconsider staying there.

Exactly. And the condo/hotel mix is often indicative of a serious decline in service.

Waldorf=Astoria was a big disappointment for me and I doubt that your brother would feel as special as he'd want to there given the circumstances. The Tower at Waldorf=Astoria is a different deal and may be more worthwhile. Even if the Plaza was open at the time in question I'd still say stay away. What a dump.

The Palace is probably a good choice, as is of course the St Regis, 4 Seasons or Ritz on CPS. Carlyle is a nice boutique hotel on the upper east side. Trump International is supposed to be absolutely fantastic. But I'm not sure you're going to get all that far on HHonors points I'm afraid. Tower at Waldorf is probably the best you could do, but I'm telling you - the regular Waldorf is going to be a big disappointment. They ride the name hard there and back it up with a very mediocre product.

Mandarin Oriental is also a choice.

Four Seasons on 57th I would avoid.

He's lucky he's got you to help him. I'm surprised he's waited to the VERY last minute to plan something as important as the wedding night. Big procrastinator I'm guessing? Be prepared to either cash in on a lot of points or spend quite a bit of money.

He's not a procrastinator, it's the person who he gave the job to. Now that I've arrived in the country, it's time to get to work. We booked a room at the NY Hilton, with a request for an upgrade due to him being Honors Gold and his wedding night. We'll see how things work out.

thanks all,
goodo

We spent 3 nights at the Plaza on our honeymoon. We felt that the place was somewhat overrated - resting on laurels of decades past. I don't hold any elite status with Fairmont, but other Fairmonts do a much better job of taking care of even the basic President's Club cardholders. Felt like I got a lot of unwarranted attitude from this hotel.

Why avoid the FS on 57th?

Angry The Plaza

This used to be THE Place to stay in NYC for the last 30 years! It is sad that the new owners have directed to "bleed it dry" until they close to "renovate", as this has always been a class property

You probably wouldn't get much of an upgrade at the Waldroff as a gold. they have some of the smallest rooms in the city, and some of the nicest, but I wouldn't risk it. Call and ask what the chances are, but if you want a nice room there as a gold, then you have to reserve it. The small rooms are literally smaller then some of the closets in the suites.
