7E7 now 787

Although it isn't on the Boeing website yet, Reuters announced the name change from the 7E7 to the 787.

So do we call it the seven-eight-seven? Or the seven-eighty-seven?

May be I should change mine to 797 (if it's not already registered) so that Boeing's next innovative aircraft would be named after me!

But why? You already have a major international airport named after you. Not to mention a defunct primetime TV show.

This is a good marketing move. 787 sounds better than 7E7.

No kidding. Otherwise, leaving out the triple-seven since no one says seven seventy seven, we would have had:

seven oh seven
seven twenty seven
seven thirty seven
seven forty seven
seven fifty seven
seven sixty seven
seven eedie seven Yuck!

seven eighty seven sounds much better.

They haven't made enough models yet to go into hexadecimal numbering.

So I take it that a 717 is a Seven Seventeen?

That's why I was thinking hexademical numbers would work. The numbers after 9 go A-F (A=10, B=11, etc).

So maybe a 7A7?

I know, I'm a geek. It's my job.

Not true. "Look for new episodes in January."

Or are these just "canned" eps that hadn't been aired by cancellation day and NBC is just burning them for want of better programming?

I liked the name 7E7. It really draws your attention that it is a totally new type of plane. Especially to the novice flyer who does not know the difference between a 737 or 757. 787 is now just going to blend in to that type of flyer. I am excited about the new plane and thought that they should name it something different. Oh well.
