Sofia, Bulgaria
Mrs JJ and I have a chance to visit here in mid July. I'll be there about 2 weeks, but the Mrs. will be with me for about 4-5 days. Anyone traveled here recently, and what are the highlights to be seen (and to do ) for first-timers?
Thanks for the information.

I'm from Thessaloniki which is quite near but never been to Bulgaria therefore no specific recommendations from me. My parents have visited SOF, though, and they did like it! From what they have told me, one must be careful security-wise and, when without your SO, avoid overindulging in conversations/contact with unknown females as things can often be dodgy.

Visited Sofia last summer for a few days.
Its a great city, but lacks in attractions for more than a i'd say four day visit.
It is still relatively cheap if you dont eat at hotels.
Security wise, I had no issues, I was more afraid for my belongings in Greece and Italy. However, at bars, male alone does get attention from the "ladies"
Make sure to visit the Rila Monastery, a short day trip from Sofia
