Solution for clanking zipper pull tabs?

most of my luggage has these metal pull tabs that clank loudly when I am running from concourse A to B...or similar.
I tried dipping them in a rubberizing things that can also be used on tools (i.e. pliers) but it came off after a few weeks.
Anyone have a better, quieter solution?

Hi, the noise never bother me. Airports aren't exactly quiet.

You can put some tape over the pull tab part?

Heat shrinkable tubing. If you aren't familiar with it, it's used in electronics work, you slip it over the connection, then heat it up with a soldering iron or whatever, and it forms a very tight seal.

Available at any radioshack.

Six feet of it cost like $2.59

Oh yeah, heat shrink will work too. You can use hair dryer on HOT setting to shrink the tube.

Another option is to swap them for non-metallic pulls. I had a bag which had a couple zipper pulls eaten up by baggage handling equipment, so I'd replace them with nylon cord pulls. I was able to buy a pack of 5 of them for a couple of bucks at a sporting goods store (Galyan's, I think).

The side benefit is that you can get them in a color to make your bag more visible, like the colored ribbon or luggae strap.
