Open Call for Suggestions
Hi all,
I've been a reader of flyertalk for a while, though as a broke college student, I haven't been able to jump into the fray and go wonderful places as much as I'd like! Nonetheless, my time has arrived - a big hole of one week, from the 10-17 of January, has opened up for me, and myself and my lovely girlfriend have decided that it's high time we get out of New York City and explore the world!!
Grand, right? But while less broke than normal, money's still going to be on the tight side. I'm looking for an airfare in the $300-or-less (less would be GREAT) range, to somewhere exciting that I've never been, preferably a good distance from this fine-but-familiar city, and ideally out of the country. If I'm going to find one anytime, it seems like this week is the right one, with all the airlines in a fare-slashing war thanks to our friends at Delta. I hope this is the right place, but what I'm really looking for is suggestions. You folks are amazing price sleuths - where should I be looking? Are there any amazing super-last-minute deals I can pounce upon, with enthusiasm and youthful vigor?
Thanks in advance for the advice,
Jeremy

Welcome. Several suggestions:
1. Check the Mileage Run forum. Deals found usually appear there (but read the terms for posting).
2. Check Site59.com.
3. Check Webflyer.com's Airfare deal page.
Good luck

Welcome, also. It's good to have you here.
Without knowing anything of what you're looking for, I'll just start off with this:
LaGuardia to Las Vega, Leaving Jan. 10, returning Jan. 17, I see RT fare from Spirit, AirTran, American, Northwest, ATA, and United in the $240/250 range. Delta is slightly more at $281.
Plus, you could probably get some good hotel rates as well, and wouldn't need a rental car if you stay on or near the strip. LAS has the monorail and good bus service as well.
Of course, there's that Delta flight LGA to Nassau in the Bahamas for $294...
God luck and hope you have a fantastic trip, wherever it winds up!!

Also Travelocity Dream Maps (click on "multiple destinations" on the main screen for the Dream Map link.) Numerous European destinations <$300, watch out for taxes etc. Good hunting and welcome to FT!

OK, so I will preach for my own parrish here, but how about Montreal? Only a short distance from NY, plenty of things to do on a budget, and some of what people call our French joie de vivre as an added attraction. Or Quebec City for an even more European feel ? Your US dollars still go a long way here (less than a couple of months ago but still) and there are some terrific fares available right now.

Lots of Florida destinations available that week for under $200. Not an overly exciting destination, but you could probably get some cheap hotels in the Daytona area that week. If the weather's nice, you could relax on the beach. If its cool, you could just hang out in the hotel room with your GF.
Or, if you really want international, Toronto is under $200 (check WestJet, whoever they are?). But, I doubt that's what you had in mind.
Or, if you want to get really whacky, rent the movie Fargo and then jump on a flight to Minneapolis for around $200. But don't stay in MSP, go a hundred miles east or west into nowhere Minnesota or nowhere Wisconsin. You could go ice fishing, rent some snowmobiles, eat some bratwurst, drink some beer, etc. (And probably find a Comfort Inn or Super 8 for under $30/night).
