Advice needed
My mom and sister are stuck at MCI right now, trying to get to Hays, Kansas (HYS). They were on a YX ticket WAS-HYS, and the MCI-HYS is operated by Air Midwest as a US Express flight.
The snowstorm that hit the midwest has cancelled the MCI-HYS flights today (there are 2 a day) and yesterday, and maybe even more than that. Supposedly Air Midwest has had a plane stuck in HYS for 3 days because of the snow.
Tomorrow's morning flight MCI-HYS is still selling seats for ~$110 OW. This is a refundable fare. (This would be bought as a US Airways ticket as Midwest Express is not allowed to sell the MCI-HYS flight as their own, but can sell it as part of a connecting itinerary) They might be behind people who have been trying to get on flights for several days. But if they have a ticket for that morning flight, would they trump people who have been backed up for days to get on? Could YX do anything because they didn't stick around in MCI trying to finish their outbound fare component? (I don't see how they could, cause I am sure some people who are stuck would consider driving). And if they have any problems or are rebooked without a problem, the tickets are refundable.
Any advice/past experiences?
