MSP Connection??

I'm considering taking a 1-stop flight with a connection in MSP to get an extra day in AMS, versus taking the direct back in the morning to Chicago. This would involve the following:

Arrive INTL from AMS @ 6:35 pm
Depart DOMESTIC to ORD @ 8:00 pm

This is in January, so shouldn't be too crowded.

Do you guys think this would be difficult to make, or a stupid choice on my part to book? There is a later flight @ 9:00om or so from MSP to ORD if I missed the first, and this is a 1hr 25min connection, with min. allowed being 1hr 15min.

Even if you miss it, there are more flights, so you should be fine. If your flight leaves on time from AMS, you won't have an issues in MSP. MSP is one of the most sane immigration/customs/transfer points in the US nowadays. Lines are nearly always very short and the personnel are amongst the friendliest of any US port of entry.

2.5 hours in MSP is plenty of time (even for me and I have to go through secondary INS screen).

Sometimes if the line through security is to long, I get out into the main terminal and go through security there.

Edited to add that it is in fact 1.5 hours!!!

6:30 to 8:00 is only 1.5 hours but I do agree that it is plenty of time to connect. And as the OP stated if he misses the 8PM there are other options for getting home. What sucks is if you have a tight connection to the last flight of the evening.

MSP-ORD won't be an issue. Plenty of flights between NW/AA/UA from MSP-ORD and that 10 p.m. NW flight always seems to work out fine for everyone no matter how busy.

Thanks so much for the reassurance guys....

Like I said, I thought it would be OK, but now I feel even better about it. It's probably odd, but I've never been at MSP before, even though I've been in most other of the lower 48, and about 30 countries

I just booked up the tickets on NWA.com. Looking forward to an exciting time in AMS!!

Have a good nite....
