Please read: Independence Air Question

I am Canadian and booked a very inexpensive flight yesterday BUF-MCO return (Dec. 18 - 31). After booking starting researching the airline and have found out they are having financial difficulties.

Have never flown with this (or any other US) airline and am very nervous that the airline will no longer be flying at this time. I am flying with two young children (one special needs) and very worried about our travel plans.

Can anyone please offer me advice/opinions on whether or not you think that they will still be flying in December. I am also worried that I may get to MCO and then they will stop flying some time during our vacation.

Also, if you come across any web newspaper articles on this airline in the next while, could you please e-mail me the link.

So appreciate any information you may have to offer.

Shouldn't be a problem

I believe Independence Air is scheduled to give their 3Q results tomorrow, so we'll know more then. I don't think anyone is calling for it to fall into bankruptcy before the end of this year though. You should be fine.

I second this comment. You can also check out the Independence Air Club forum for more insight. I think someone else posed almost the same question over there.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, riu girl!

Independence Air has its own forum and I'd suggest you'd find some useful information there - here's a link to a current thread that you might find of interest...

That is the first I have heard about Independence Air having financial problems. When they started up they had a ton of cash and great credit. I think they'll be in business for awhile.

Their load factors have been below 50%.

They have an almost $100mm aircraft payment due in January. They're trying to renegotiate the timing on that payment, spread it out. If the renegotiation fails, they're expected to file for bankruptcy protection to avoid burning $98mm cash.

1) They aren't filing for bankruptcy before the end of December.
2) They'll certainly be flying when the original poster is planning to fly.

I'm sufficiently confident of them flying in December that I was comfortable with a colleague booking 40 seats on a single flight in Dec!
