Pine Barrens

Is this an interesting area? Is it true there are ghost towns there? I've read about the Jersey Devil and I'm wondering if it's worth a day trip out of Philadelphia?

I grew up in PHL and traveled a lot in this area enroute to various beach locations. I honestly cannot think of anything memorable to see or do there.

It was one of the very, very best Sopranos episodes (with Paulie and Christopher arguing over who would eat the ketchup packets, among other memorable scenes).

I was thinking of that too! When I was in 9th grade, we did a class field trip to the Pine Barrens in which we spent the day canoeing. I remember it being a lot of fun and quite scenic.

Would agree with Analise, very scenic in the summer -- some of the rivers have devolped a surprisingly good striped bass fishery -- often desolate and forboding, in an odd sort of way, in the winter.
Yes, the Jersey Devil does exist!
