Question Travelling on two e-tickets: problems checking baggage through to final destination?

I am travelling Tokyo-Manchester on two e-tickets (NH/BD). Will I be able to check my luggage all the way through to Manchester at Narita as I have done in the past with paper tickets (even with a NH/BA combination) or will I need to ask British Midland for a paper ticket?

If NH can see your BD e-ticket on NH's computer system then you have no problem; if they can't see it, then it won't work. I have no idea if NH/BD have integrated their systems yet; my experience with e-tickets is that whenever you cross airline boundaries it is best to assume that the e-ticket is lost. Unfortunately airlines charge a rather large fee for a paper ticket these days; you could try phoning NH to inquire if they can see your BD booking, if they can see it in the UK they should also see it in NRT when you travel. Or just pay the fee to get the paper ticket and be done with it.

While my experience has been USA domestic, the way it worked here is that they just need the airline, flight number and final destination airport of my connection. If you've been able to do this in the past, the fact that the ticket is electronic shouldn't make any difference. Of course this all depends on the airlines having an agreement to transfer luggage. Good luck.

This should technically not be a problem as a properly trained agent should know how to "add" a flight to your baggage tag.

The only problem is that you would need to remember to tell BD you are connecting to at LHR the baggage tag number (to input into BD's system), or else they won't load it.
