Flying on expired ticket?

Hi,

A friend of mine is booked on an AF youth ticket (booked through a TA) AMS-CDG-JNB return. His ticket will expire in September. He booked his return date for the earliest date he was able to leave (with his TA). The only problem is his ticket expires the day before. The TA made the booking for him without any problems, and even provided him with a sticker before he departed AMS originally in order to change the dates on his paper ticket. Will he have any problems when he tries to use it?

Any advice you can give?
thanks

The problem is he can't leave any earlier. If he calls AF they will certainly tell him that if it's expired, he can't fly on it. I thought it'd be better to try his luck at the airport. What do you think?
