Ripped From The Sky

Anyone seent his National Geographic Channel dramatization ( ) of the UA811 accident? THis was the LAX-AKL flight that had a hole open in the fuse midflight.

Seems very Lifetime movie of the week in the overwrought drama.

I saw this the other day. The thing I found most striking about it was seeing the photos of the plane on the ground and thinking thats incredible. Planes really are quite incredible things.

I also saw the program recently about the Air Transat flight that ran out of fuel mid-atlantic. The pilots managed to get the plane on the ground by gliding it in for an incredible distance to an Island airport (cant remember which one). There were all sorts of issues about why it happened, but to get a fully loaded passenger jet from 35000ft to an airport without fuel with only a few burst tyres on landing is truly stunning. It made for a great TV programme!
